Traghetti per la Tunisia

Tunisia is a destination closer to Italy than commonly thought, making it possible to reach by ferry. Ferries to Tunisia are an interesting alternative for those who fear flying or simply enjoy sea travel, with the significant advantages of transporting your own car and having no baggage limits. Moreover, the port of Tunis is well connected to the city center, so once you disembark and clear customs, you’ll quickly be in the heart of your vacation.

Ports of Departure

Ferries to Tunis depart from the Italian ports of Civitavecchia, Genoa, Salerno, and Palermo.

  • The Salerno-Tunis route is operated by Grimaldi Lines, with departures on Saturdays at 00:30 (travel time of 22 hours) and Mondays at 12:30 (travel time of 26 hours).

  • The Civitavecchia-Tunis route is operated by Grimaldi Lines and GNV. Grimaldi departs on Wednesdays at 19:00, with a travel time of 19 hours and arrival in Tunis at 14:00 the next day, while GNV departs on Fridays at 19:00, arriving in Tunis 30 hours later at 01:00 on Sunday.

  • The Genoa-Tunis route is operated by GNV and CTN Tunisia Ferries, with departures at 15:00 on Saturdays, arriving 23 hours later at 14:00 on Sunday, and at 18:00 on Wednesdays, arriving in Tunis also 23 hours later.

  • The Palermo-Tunis route is operated by GNV and Grimaldi Lines. Both depart on Saturdays, GNV at 11:00 with arrival in Tunis after 9.5 hours, and Grimaldi at 12:30 with arrival after 10 hours. On Tuesdays, only Grimaldi Lines departs at 02:00, with arrival in Tunis after 12.5 hours.

Note that prices vary based on the season and how far in advance the ticket is purchased; for all routes, with an additional fee, it is possible to book a cabin instead of a standard deck passage. All ships departing from Italy arrive at La Goulette port, located a few kilometers east of the city center: from there, you can reach the Ville Nouvelle or the Medina by crossing the Lake of Tunis and proceeding along Avenue Habib Bourguiba, or for those traveling without their own vehicle, by using the TGM trains.
